Sinag Pilipinas Team's Great Performance In SEA Games 2011 Brightens The Future of Philippine Basketball Internationally
If this year we had some breakthroughs in the world of International Basketball particularly our 4th place finish in the FIBA Asia Championship 2011 which we have not experienced for several years, now I can say, for sure next year we'll be able to make greater noise considering that our pride, the Sinag Pilipinas Men's Basketball showed a very convincing performance in the 26th South East Asian Games.
Sinag Pilipinas showcased a group of great players who are committed to their duty of bringing back the lost glory of the Philippines in the world of International Basketball. In fact, they demolished all of their opponents in the SEA Games 2011 en route to beating Thailand, 103-69, in the Gold Medal Match. Their stint in the SEA Games was a strong statement of how badly they want to represent and to glorify the Philippines in international competitions.
I really believe that the players Sinag Pilipinas will definitely be great candidates for the Gilas 2.0. They can make the new version of Gilas a great team in the near future.
I don't know if you'll agree with me, but I think, Sinag Players namely Kiefer Ravena, Chris Ellis, Cliff Hodge, Greg Slaughter, and Dave Marcelo will be the most perfect players for the Gilas 2.0 program.
For me, those 5 guys have the height, the athleticism, and the talent to play well for Gilas 2.0. Kiefer is perfect to play the point guard position. His height is 5'11 and he has great court vision and he can create plays for his team using his slashing ability. I can really feel that he will be the Chris Paul of Gilas 2.0. He can also score at will in fact he led Sinag in scoring in most of their games. Chris Ellis and Cliff Hodge can play the shooting guard position well. They just have to polish their outside shooting but athletically wise I feel that they can compete against the best shooting guards of other teams well pound for pound. Dave and Greg has the height and I believe that they are built to play the big men positions for Gilas. We will have an instant 7 footer in Greg and we will have a strong player in Dave. Dave can fill in the big space that Asi will leave. To those of you who don't know about Asi's decision, he may no longer play international basketball next year. That's what he said in the FIBA Asia 2011 and in the Jones Cup, but that's still subject to change especially with the new food diet that he has which he got from Marcio Lassiter.
The news now is that the new Gilas 2.0 will combine PBA Players and amateur players in one team. The obvious thing now is that not all the members of Sinag Pilipinas will be included in the new Gilas program but I'm hoping that those 5 players that I mentioned above will make it to the final list of Gilas 2.0 Line-up.
The PBA now on the other hand can lend big men such as Japeth Aguilar, Ranidel De Ocampo and other superb Bigs who can beef up the front line of Gilas 2.0. The PBA just has to choose wisely so that the come-backing coach Toroman will have an easier time in training his players.
Coach Toroman will most likely be back as the head coach of Gilas 2.0 as he will have a meeting with Mr. Pangilinan soon. Coach Tim Cone and Coach Chot will most likely be part of the new coaching staff of Gilas 2.0. Together, they will lead Gilas 2.0 in the next international competitions.
Yeah, the comm-enters below are right, you can field in Bobby Ray Parks Jr. in the final line-up of Gilas 2.0. He's also tall and at 6'4 he has nice basketball handles. He can definitely make an impact for the Philippine Team.
