The Philippine taekwondo team hauled 7 gold medals in the 6th International Korea Open Taekwondo Championship held in Gumi, South Korea last week.
The RP squad competed in the poomsae event against 11 other teams coming from countries like Great Britain, Italy and Indonesia.
Janice Lagman won in the Ladies Individual Poomsae while her cousin Rani Ortega and JP Sapido partnered to win the Mixed Doubles.
The Philippine Men’s Team also came out triumphant.
The Philippine Team cited improvements in its performances as proven by the scores this year.
"Last year, mga 7 point-something ang nakukuha namin, pero ngayon mga 8 points," said Lagman.
The team trained in Korea before entering the tournament.
Their stint in the Korea Open is part of their preparations for the World Championships, which will take place in Uzbekistan in October.
"This year, gusto namin almost all [categories] reaching higher," said Sapido.
Korean master Jeong Taescong is overseeing the team preparations.
The team hopes that the trio of Lagman, Ortega and Camille Alarilla repeat their performances that won them the gold in the World Poomsae Championship in Egypt last year. -- With a report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
