MANILA, Philippines —After a convincing opening game victory, Powerade guns for the early lead in the 36th PBA Philippine Cup when it goes for a back-to-back win against Barangay Ginebra this Saturday in the first out-of-town game at the Batangas City Sports Complex in Batangas City.

The lone encounter presented by Phoenix Fuel is set at 5 p.m. with the Kings out to bounce back from their stunning defeat Meralco last Sunday.

Powerade also opened its campaign in the all-Filipino conference with a 111-103 win over Rain or Shine Wednesday night despite having five new players.

Gary David will be a marked man this Saturday after exploding for 25 points against the Elasto Painters. He averaged 18.2 points during the Fiesta Cup.

Despite their inspiring win, Powerade coach Bo Perasol said they still have to raise their level of game a notch higher to pull off back-to-back upset wins.

“Ginebra is a tough team,” Perasol said. “We need to be tougher.”

“The important aspect of our game is to have a mindset that we can win,” added Perasol who will likewise rely on his veterans like Mark Macapagal, Chico Lanete, Will Antonio, Dennis Espino, as well as new players Rob Reyes, Renren Ritualo and rookie Sean Anthony.

Like the last time, the game is expected to be fast and exciting since the Tigers are now into a run-and-gun style – a complete turnaround from their previous halfcourt set offense when Asi Taulava was still their main man.

Taulava is now playing for Meralco – one two teams by Smart and PLDT chair Manny Pangilinan. The other is Talk ’N Text.

However, he cautioned his boys to limit their turnovers since they committed 33 during their game against Rain or Shine.

As for Ginebra, coach Jong Uichico said they have to work harder following that stunning first game setback to the Bolts, particularly on the defensive end with David and Macapagal capable of shooting the lights out.

“We’ll just try to keep finding ways to win. Powerade is a strong team, so we have to match their intensity,” Uichico said.

Expected to deliver the goods for the Kings are former two-time MVP Willie Miller, 2009 MVP Jayjay Helterbrand and Mark Caguioa, while backing them up are JC Intal, Ronald Tubid, Mike Cortez, Rudy Hatfield, Erik Menk and Rico Villan
