Herschel Walker MMA 's Oldest Fighter: Defies Aging As Reason For Retirement

Herschel Walker is a former NFL star quarterback. He has retired for over 12 years now. But unlike other NFL retired players he's not flabby and fatty.

He didn't stop his usual diet of two full meals a day without meat only high calorie but pure fruits and vegetable diet. He also makes it a point that he does his usual physical workout everyday.

His gym instructor and personal trainer Javier Mendez said that he is really amazed at how Herschel Walker handles himself. He never feels sluggish to do his gym workouts day in day out. He's nearing the twilight age of men, which is 50 years old yet he's out there making a significant difference.

But, Javier Mendez, a mixed martial arts trainer for over 32 years now was shocked when Herschel Walker asked him if he can still enter the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He said yes but he was not too serious when he said yes. He believes that Walker should now only be in television shows such as Dancing with the stars where the retired athletes usually end up but Walker deviated from the norm.

Herschel Walker then immediately asked and scheduled his martial arts training.

Herschel Walker was a Heisman Trophy award winner in 1982 when he was still in The University of Georgia. That's why he is regarded as an elite athlete. No wonder he still has the drive to fight in the UFC.

He is now 48 years old but he still wants to fight in UFC.

He said, "I was in great shape when I was younger," he said. "This is the toughest thing I've ever done. I think that's the reason I'm in better shape than I've ever been in. I'm going to do something different, to be a little different than the average person," he said. "You can't be in the same cookie cutter."

He also said, "You got to get knocked down many times, shake it off. Life is about ups and downs, and you got to keep standing up. It's just a mindset."
