Larry Bird To DJ Pass A Day To Remeber

This Bird to Dennis Johnson pass happened in the game 5 of the 1987 NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the defending champions Boston Celtics and the Detroit Pistons. It has been 23 long years since the people have witnessed the magical pass and shot that these two all time greats had done but it still a very inspiring and very symbolical way of showing ho to face the seemingly inevitable failure and how to override it with persistence and focus.

In that game, the Celtics were down 107-106 with just 5 seconds remaining in the fourth and final quarter. Prior to that situation Larry Bird had a chance to make the go ahead basket but his shot was blocked by Dennis Rodman of the Pistons.

The Pistons are now 5 seconds away from securing a 3-2 lead in the finals series. Their coach asked Isiah Thomas to call a timeout but they refused to do it. They immediately asked to inbounds the ball and just run the game clock.

And so Isiah Thomas just did his own thing. He passed the ball to Bill Lambeer but suddenly a blurry image stole the ball from behind it was bird, the people shouting his name but there was only 3 seconds remaining and he's about to step on the baseline but here comes Dennis Johnson for the undergoal lay-up. They now have the lead. Wow! Its incredible!. They eventually won the game via 108-107 enroute to the NBA World Championship. That is really amazing. It is really worth remembering.

There were two important lessons from that very historical play. How many people from all walks of life would just give up whenever they are in a bad or in a dire situation wherein they have given it all but still failure will still happen. Whether you're a student, a lawyer, a clerk or a businessman you can still make a move coming from your heart that until the last buzzer you would not and could not give in to failure. You can still turn things around. The first lesson from that play of Bird and DJ would be not to give up amidst the seemingly inevitable failure. Just do it with all your heart and with all the focus that you can give. And secondly, we need help from our love ones. Larry Bird was about to go out of bounds after he stole the ball from the Pistons but his teamate Dennis Johnson suddenly appeared coming all the way from the half court line just to get the pass from Larry Bird. Imagine the effort that he gave for his teamate's effort not to be put into waste. That is a metaphor of life.

How I wish I am like that and all others as well.
