Ginebra Beats Rain or Shine For Semifinals Slot In PBA Commissioners Cup 2011
One of my favorite commentators in basketball, Andy Jao said it perfectly, "Mark Caguioa's game is coming back!" Indeed Mark "The Spark" Caguiao is back. Caguioa has been aiming to bring back the never say die attitude of the Gin Kings this season and so far he has been successful in doing that. In the process of doing that, it is but fitting for him to bring back his never say die game. Rain or Shine felt helpless when in the game 3 of their best of 3 quarterfinals series, Mark Caguioa rose to their challenge. Caguioa and the Gin Kings beat them with the score of 92-82.
With the win, the Gin Kings advance into the semifinals. Caguioa scored 30 big points including the all important three point shot in the last 2 minutes of the very intense game that sealed the fate of Rain or Shine. That 3 point shot increased the lead of the Gin Kings to 4 points.
They won the series, 2-1. The Gin Kings will now face the very strong Smart Gilas Pilipinas in the semifinals on Friday at the Big Dome.
Coach Jong Uichico said that Rain or Shine is a tough team to beat especially when Coach Yeng Guiao is at his best.
Caguiao tried his best in shouldering the offensive load of Ginebra as their import, Nate Brumfield struggled in this all important game 3. Their import only had 12 points.
Rain or Shine was led by their very persistent import, Hassan Adams. He had 25 points. Larry Rodriguez, the pride of PMI had 15 points and Gabe Norwood had 11 points.
Cortez and Tubid also brought their best game for the Gin Kings.
