San Beda Red Lions Beat UP Fighting Maroons In 2011 FilOil Flying V Quarterfinals
Once again, the King Red Lion, Garvo Lanete stood tall in helping his team beat the inspired UP Fighting Maroons. Finding inspiration from their favorite NBA underdog team, the Memphis Grizzlies, the UP Fighting tried their very best to stay at par with the San Beda Red Lions, but in the end, Garvo Lanete's scoring prowess ended their hopes in winning this quarterfinals match-up. The final score of this game was 97-68.
Lanete had 23 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. His points came mostly from a barrage of 3 pointers. Imagine him getting his first 5 three point shots going inside the basket. He never missed a three point shot in this game. He made back to back to back three pointer. That's how good Garvo is. He's scary when he gets his rhythm. 3 UP defenders tried to stop him but he still made his shots despite their good defenses. As a result he was named as the best player of this game. He was helped by ola Adeogun. The black center of UP can't stop just figure out how to stop Ola Adeogun one on one. He was schooled by the 19 year old Ola Adeogun.
UP never led in this game. Mike Silungan had 15 points in this game but still they lost by a large margin. The rising shooting guard of UP, Jet Manuel helped Silungan but his efforts were to no avail. Take note, Sudan Daniel, the other semerad, and Dave Marcelo were not in this game yet the Red Lions still won the game. Looking forward, San Beda advances into the FilOil semi-finals on Friday. They will go against Adamson or San Sebastian.
