Mark Caguioa Played Like Sonny Jaworski Last Night Against Alaska: Gin Kings Won Against the Aces in PBA Governors' Cup Semis
Mark "The Spark" Caguioa or MC-47, led the Gin Kings in beating the Alaska Aces last night via 81-77. He scored 26 big points to lead all scorers in that game. As a result, Ginebra is now in solo 2nd in the semi-finals. They are now just one game behind Talk 'n Text and they will try to beat on Sunday for a chance to be in the top spot.
What made me the happy last night, aside from the win of Ginebra, was that I was able to witness the rebirth of the Big J, Sonny Jaworski in Mark Caguioa. Big J was known to be a hard worker and a very strong person that embodied the "Never Say Die" attitude throughout his long career in the PBA. Even if he was hurt, he'll still push himself to play. That's Jaworski for me.
And, when I saw Mark Caguioa limping a bit last night. I think it happened in the latter part of the ball game, in the 3rd quarter or in the early 4th quarter. I saw one of Ginebra's trainer talking to Mark Caguioa while he was on the bench. He pointed to Mark's ankle. I believe Mark sprained his ankle in that instance. But what made me happy was that Caguioa acted as if he was not injured. Mark insisted to return to the game and he was even asked "sigurado ka?". He doesn't answer. He just continued to play. That for me is an act that was originally shown by Jaworski. That's the heart of Jaworki right there in Mark Caguioa. I can't help but smile and without me knowing it, I was already going down memory lane during the hay days of Jaworski.
I remember there was a game wherein Jaworski was brought to the hospital because he was hurt, but after a few minutes he asked to go back into the game. He played even if he was hurt. He eventually led his team to a comeback and they eventually won that game. That's the heart of a true Ginebra player. And after seeing what Caguioa did, I now believe that he also has that never say die heart in him because he also played through the pain and he led his team for the win against the Aces despite his ankle injury. Thus, for me, he is the rebirth of Sonny Jaworski.
Go for the MVP MC-47!
