Letran Knights Ended 3 Game Slide With A Win Over The Mapua Cardinals

By Kristina Caramel Sy

The Letran Knights ended their 3 game losing streak yesterday when they went up against the full force Mapua Cardinals in their first meeting in the elimination round of the NCAA Season 88. The Knights went on to win the tight game. The final score was 66-60 in their favor.

The Knights' Ace player, Kevin Alas had 21 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assist and 2 steals. He rescued his team from the hopeful Cardinals who paraded a complete line-up after they had resolved the eligibility problems of their other players. The NCAA management committee has already decided to allow the 5 rookies of Mapua to play this Season.

Kenneth Ighalo of the Cardinals kept his squad at par with Letran until Jonathan Belorio erupted with 6 points in the 3rd Quarter that increased Letran's lead.

Despite the big 11-2 run by the Knights in the last 4 minutes of the 4th Quarter, the Cardinals were still trying to trim down their deficit. Mapua's Jumel Chien made back-to-back-to-back charities. However, the time was not on their side. It was enough for the Cardinals and so they decided to foul some of the Knights and send them to the free-throw line. Unfortunately, Mark Cruz sank his two bonus shots that secured their victory after 3-consecutive painful losses.

The Knights have ended their 3 game losing streak. But, they still have a problem. One of their big men, Raymond Almazan is still missing in action. Is he injured or something? We still haven't heard a news about his absence....
