Manila, Philippines - I remember a teenage anti-Ginebra fan fervently nodding his head in front of his computer while watching the old clips showing how the living legend Sonny Jaworski played basketball during his heydays in the PBA. He can’t help but to admire the all out style of play of the living legend. Imagine, he’s not a Ginebra fan but he was moved and affected by the Never Say Die attitude of Jawo. I guess that’s what you call the “Jawo Magic,” the magic that inspired millions of people in and around the Philippines.
Jawo brought that Magic when he visited one of the practice sessions of the Smart Gilas Team Pilipinas. He spoke in front of the Smart Gilas Players who are in the latter part of their preparation for the upcoming FIBA Asia Championship 2013 in Manila.
He started by saying that he’s a product of basketball and that playing for the Philippines is one of the most memorable experiences that he had all throughout his basketball career.
He shared his passion for playing for the National Team and that he jokingly said that he still wants to be part of the National Team.
He pointed out that the passion that he has is also present in the current coaching staff of the Gilas Team. That’s the reason why he is confident that the National Team is in good hands coming into the FIBA Asia Championship.
He also pointed out that Great Nations have great People. And that the players are in a perfect position to show to the whole world that the Philippines have great basketball players who have great character and attitude.
He ended his inspirational talk with this line:
"I tell you, life is all about memories, bad or good. Let's make this a good memory. This is a great opportunity to be great," - SONNY JAWORSKI
Hopefully he was able to inspire the Gilas Players as they go against the best of the best Asian Basketball Players in the FIBA Asia Championship. Let’s wait and see if they will be able to show the Never Say Die Attitude of the Living Legend…
