Greg Slaughter cleared by FIBA to Play for the Philippines

Tweet Scoop:

Things are looking bright for the Philippines as FIBA has cleared Greg Slaughter to play for the National Team according to coach Chot Reyes.

The 7-foot big man could be the missing piece of the team's big man puzzle for the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

His services could come in handy when they face Iran on September 13 (Thursday) as he can match-up well with Hamed Haddadi. Let's just wait and see if he is 100 percent on that day as he is still nursing an ankle injury.

The said reason why FIBA approved the application hinges on the fact that Greg got the Philippine passport "shortly after the age of 16."

"We have taken note of the fact that the Player is claiming to have acquired the legal nationality of Philippines before the age of 16 but has failed to present the respective passport with a date of issue before his sixteenth birthday," according to FIBA.

Greg also tweeted about the good news. He thanked the men behind the scenes who worked day and night just to get the approval of FIBA.

SBP is happy about this news as they can now come up with a strong line-up that has enough ceiling to contend with the best of them.

With this development, I can't help but be excited for the team as they prepare for the biggest fight of their lives.
